Rupa glazes the top half to keep it smooth for drinking and leaves the bottom half raw. After three rounds of firing, the flame decides the textures on the mugs making each one unique.

Shila (शिला) means stone in Sanskrit, and it’s shaped by exactly that: mountain forms, stone dust, and iron-rich clay. Wheel thrown in Pondicherry, finished in a food-safe, lead-free glaze, and wood fired three times at 1260°C. What comes out of the kiln is chalk-matte and speckled, like snow touched by mineral grit and ash, off-white tones softened into beige-grey. The flame path leaves a different pattern on every piece.

How does it feel to drink from?

The glaze stops halfway down, so your lip meets smooth ceramic while your palms wrap around raw iron-rich clay. That unglazed part is where you feel the warmth of the drink through the clay before the first sip. Run your thumb across the middle and you’ll find the line where glaze ends and clay begins. Every mug carries that line in a different place.
